Religion and ethics

At Hobartville Public School, Special Religious Education (SRE) is delivered on Thursdays from 12:10pm - 12:45pm for Stage 1 and 2 students and from 12:45pm – 1:20pm for Kindergarten, Stage 3 and Primary Support students.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to their class teacher, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Hobartville Public School:

Catholic SRE teachers (also known as Catechists) are authorised by the Parish of Richmond and trained by the Parramatta Diocese of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic SRE curriculum is approved by the Bishop of the Parramatta Diocese in liaison with religious education experts. Lessons include activities that are fun and inclusive for students, whilst also providing them the opportunity to critically explore in depth their faith and to pray and reflect. Catholic SRE teachers engage young people in hearing the Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of their Christian life and culture. For more information about the Catholic SRE curriculum go to https://parracatholic.org/ccd-home/#catechists

Protestant SRE (includes all other Christian denominations) is provided by SRE teachers from different Christian denominations and churches. The approved provider in this combined arrangement is the Anglican Diocese of Sydney (Richmond Anglican Church). All Protestant SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider. Protestant SRE teachers engage students in conversations as they question life, explore values and discover faith. The Protestant SRE curriculum is authorised by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney.

The curriculum is based on Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of the Christian life and culture and can be found at https://whysre.com.au/sre-curriculum/cep-curriculum-overview/  or https://godspace.org.au/curriculum/sre-ri-curriculum/

During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities such as silent reading or completing classwork.
